Compostable paper cups are an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic cups
Compostable paper cups are made of biodegradable material, such as paper board. It decomposes just like any other organic material and takes as little as 90 days to decompose in a compost bin. Biodegradable cups contain a biodegradable coating made from PLA, or polylactic acid.
Compared to conventional disposable cups, compostable paper cups feature a coating that is completely safe for the environment. They can easily break down in a compost pile when used with proper composting techniques. These products are also cheaper and more widely available than plastic. They are also recyclable and do not pose any risks to the environment.
Despite these positives, Compostable Paper Cups are not perfect solutions for the environmental crisis. Despite their sustainability, they are still not as convenient as plastic cups. The cost of purchasing them is higher than the cost of recycling them. But if they are made on a large scale, they may become more affordable.
